The penultimate Saturday live task gave one of the housemates the chance to win a call from home. Tim was the lucky recipient of the call and sobbed live to the nation as emotion overcame him.
The remaining 5 housemates after PJ's eviction were set (yet another) quiz - this time about each other's application form answers. Each housemate was given three questions in the Diary Room and 15 seconds to answer each. For every correct answer there was £25 worth of shopping budget to be won. The added bonus was 5 seconds of a phone call from an unknown loved one. The winner of the call would have to be chosen by the housemates themselves and after last week's fiasco, 'random selections' were not allowed.
Some of the answers were interesting, but we found it more interesting that some people had far easier questions than others. Another thing to bear in mind was that if the housemates couldn't remember what they'd put on their own application forms, how were the rest supposed to know?
A prime example was this teaser for Alex - 'Whose specialist subject would be Ancient Egypt on MasterMind?'. Of course it was Jonny, who admitted to Alex that he'd only put it because he couldn't think of anything else!
We also thought the two picture questions - given to Kate and Jade - were particularly easy. Jade was shown a picture of 'something happy' of two sets of feet entwined in a passionate manner was obviously drawn by Jonny. The artist of a self portriat was also clearly Tim, as guessed by Kate. To Kate's credit though, she did get all her questions right.
All in all, the housemates won a £200 shopping budget and a 40 second phone call for getting 8 of 15 questions correct. Jonny began the discussion by saying Tim, who 'has been down all week' and also had been talking of leaving, should recieve the call. Kate said as she got a message last week, she didn't deserve the call and Alex said he'd find it easier to continue in the house without outside contact to remind him of what he was missing. Jade also said she could wait to talk to her mum, leaving Tim and Jonny to fight it out. The two men each wanted the other to recieve the call, but Jade and Kate both though Tim should get it. Tim was however worried that the public would hate him even more for taking the call, but the others were adamant.
Tim spent a tearful 40 seconds talking to his mother, who reassured him that Joanna [his girlfriend] sent her love, relieving him of his fear that she'd left him. He told her he'd see her 'on Friday' and got the loving reply of 'we'll all be here for you' before he had to hang up. Tim tearfully thanked Big Brother and returned to the lounge where the other housemates, who'd watched the call on the plasma screen, were also subdued. Jade was crying too!
Although we were again disappointed with the task, we thought Tim's call was great. If Tim acted a bit more like that all the time, he would have less problems with the public view of him. We do feel that the so-called fans who boo exiting contestants are shamefully insensitive to the fragile humans that exit the house and Tim has hardly done much to justify the hate of him. He preens a lot, but is that worthy of the hatred? Not really. He can be arrogant, but isn't an awful human being. We're pleased he got the call.
